Welcome to LUMAGICA Merano, the magical park of lights in the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle!
For the first time since their opening in 2001, the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle are opening their doors in the winter months for a magical attraction:
The LUMAGICA Park of Lights, South Tyrol’s only park of its kind, will open its gates on 21.11.2024 and take visitors* on an incomparable journey through the fascinating worlds of the botanical gardens.
Each handcrafted light installation has been carefully designed to reflect the botanical garden’s unique themes and atmospheres, enchanting visitors of all ages.

Over 300 light objects adorn the path and at dusk they begin to spark a wondrous play of lights that enchants every visitor.

Location & Accessibility
The magical park of lights takes place at Trauttmansdorff Castle in Merano.
Arrival by car
Parking spaces are available on site for a fee.
You can reach us quickly and easily by car or coach. From Bolzano on the MEBO expressway (SS 38) or from the Resia Pass (A) on the SS 40 and SS 38 to the Sinch | Sinigo exit; then turn towards the town center at the second traffic circle towards Scena. From here it is only 2 km to the 4 parking lots of Trauttmansdorff. Address for your navigation system: The Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle or Naifdammweg (SP8).
Arrival by public transport
Buses no. 1B (Trauttmansdorff) and no. 4 (Obermais) depart every 20 minutes from the city center and Merano train station. They stop directly on site.
The closest train station to the gardens is in Merano/Meran and is around 5 km away. With the above mentioned buses you can reach us in about 20 minutes.

Where can I buy tickets?
Tickets can be purchased online or on site (+2.60 euros).
Payment
You can pay on site at the cash desk in Trauttmansdorff with the following cards: Bancomat (EC card), credit card (VISA or Mastercard).
Are reservations possible?
Reservierungen sind für Großgruppen ab 20 Personen möglich.
Is it possible to cancel or rebook tickets?
Rebooking and cancelations are excluded for technical reasons.
Do children need tickets?
Children aged 0-6 do not require a ticket and are admitted free of charge.
Children from 6- incl. 14 need a children’s ticket
Group discounts available
Large groups of 20 people or more receive a discount of -10%.
Are discounted tickets available?
Discounts apply to senior citizens aged 65 and over, schoolchildren, students up to the age of 26 and disabled people (provided they have a valid disability pass and a degree of disability of at least 50%. One accompanying person is free of charge if an accompanying person is listed on the back of their disability card).
Admission for children under the age of 6 is free of charge and possible without a ticket.
Children aged 6-14 are entitled to the reduced children’s rate.

Our tickets can be purchased for a specific day and time.
Please come to the day and time slot you have chosen. (+30 min tolerance for delays)
When is the last entry?
The park closes daily at 9.00 pm. We recommend allowing 1.5 hours for the circular walk.

Food & Beverage
There is a food and beverage area in LUMAGICA Park where you can get drinks and snacks.
Good to know
Good footwear is an advantage. You can expect a difference in altitude of approx. 100 meters. But don’t worry if you’re not good on your feet. Even if you are dependent on a walking aid, you can still enjoy the gardens.
How long is the circular route?
The circular route (not guided) is a one-way system and is approx. 1.3 km long. Depending on the time spent and breaks, it takes about 1.5 hours.
There are signposted toilets along the way.
Are dogs allowed?
Dogs may be man’s best friend, but they are not the best friends of tender sprouting plants. Our four-legged friends have a slightly different idea of the perfect use of a garden. What’s more, some plants are poisonous. That’s why dogs and other pets are not allowed in.

The park is wheelchair and baby carriage accessible.

Weather and clothing
LUMAGICA is an outdoor event and takes place in all weathers, including rain.
Tickets cannot be returned due to bad weather.
In any case, we recommend weatherproof clothing and sturdy footwear.
May I take photos?
You are cordially invited to photograph our light shows. We would be delighted if you captured the special atmosphere of the park of lights and shared your impressions with us on social media under #lumagica #lumagicameran
Unfortunately, it is not possible to film the area with a drone. There is no flight permit for this.
Is the Touriseum open?
No, the Touriseum remains closed during LUMAGICA.
Are all the paths accessible in summer?
We have staged a light trail that highlights the beauty of the gardens. For safety reasons (darkness), however, not all paths are accessible during LUMAGICA.
Can I enter the park if the time slot is already full? I missed my timeslot, can I enter the next one?
If you have missed your timeslot, you can enter the next available timeslot, subject to availability. We recommend that you contact the staff on site to discuss the options.
Why are there time slots at all and why are they necessary? Can I stay in the park beyond my time slot?
Time slots are necessary to control visitor numbers and ensure a pleasant experience for all guests. They help to minimize queues and maintain safety standards. You can stay in the park beyond your booked time slot.
Why do I have to enter my license plate number for the parking ticket?
So that the exit is guaranteed. By entering the license plate number, the parking system can recognize your vehicle and open the barrier automatically
